Introducing Rambling Goose

Hey there, thanks for stopping by my new blog. Although the blog is called ‘ramblingswan’, my blogging name is ‘Ramblinggoose’ and this is my first foray into writing. In almost 3 decades on earth, my longest non academic, non facebook, non ‘journalling’, non sms writing is a 3 line poem I started in high school which is still waiting to be completed – gasp, mock shock, horror. 🙂

I come from quite an artistic family, particularly sibling wise, my older sister and youngest brother have had blogs for a while now; my sister started having poems published in newspapers as far back as 1995, my younger brother writes raps and has actually recorded a demo and my youngest brother is the literary genius of the family having published a poetry compilation in a premier publishing house before he turned 20. By family standards, I am a very ‘late bloomer’ and practically a ‘writer-illiterate’  (I like to make up or harness words).

I am a huge rap aficionado, and the inspiration for the blog came when I discovered a Christian rapper called Lecrae. He reminded me of how I felt when I read books by Max Lucado (one of my all time favourite authors); I felt like he opened my heart, peeked into my brain and somehow articulated what I wanted to say but didn’t have the smarts or the literary prowess to express. Lecrae’s lyrics remind me of the power of words, and our God given command (not mild suggestion, contrary to popular action) to go into the world and publish (preach, proclaim and publicise) the gospel (Mark 16:15, AMP). I am a writing novice but I recognise that we all have a God given voice (spoken, written or otherwise) and so I have decided to try my hands at ‘publishing’.

About my user name- the rambling bit is pretty self explanatory: I am a typical woman, I could talk for days (I like to think I’m a better listener but who am I kidding:-) ). I have an opinion on almost everything, hence the tendency to ramble. I am very inquisitive and like to know a little about everything, relevant or not. I also read voraciously, so much so that I often start reading books, and don’t finish them and start on another; I’m currently on my sixth consecutive unfinished book in 2 months….hmmm…

The goose part is a little more intriguing; I recently learnt about some fascinating characteristics of geese. They reportedly fly in distinctive formations that help all the geese in the group fly at least 50 percent faster and better than they would if they were alone. They make loud noises called contact calls to keep the group together, and when a goose gets hurt or shot, 2 geese drop out of the formation, follow it down, and stay with it until it dies or recovers.

These fill me with amazement at truly how wondrous indeed our Father is and how much thought and precision He put into all of creation. I also can’t help but draw similarities with the Church; the bible encourages us to bear one another’s burdens and make up for each others shortcomings; to join rank, and be inventive in encouraging love and helping out. It instructs us to not avoiding meeting together but to always spur each other on, especially as we see the Day approaching. (Hebrews 10:24-25, MSG) and that is my goal for the blog.

As to subject matter, I will write primarily about faith, my thoughts on family and relationships, pop culture, ruminations on life and the whole shebang. My primary inspiration will be Gods word (the bible), I don’t know how often I will write, hopefully inspiration will strike often, and I will be disciplined enough to follow it. Lecrae s lyrics will feature prominently; they are often so apt and like condensed sermons, and have inspired me so much , I will be quoting him often- no plagiarism intended, in this case, quotation not imitation will be the highest form of flattery.  🙂

I’m really excited about this journey, a little scared of the risk and tendency to lay it all out there, I realise that I’m a work in progress, I don’t know it all and I don’t have the answers so I would love to hear your thoughts, comments and responses.

My primary desire is to please God and be a voice for Him. My actions are often miles apart from my intentions, I have strayed far and often but His Spirit always nudges me back like the father of the prodigal, and I am humbled at His willingness and eagerness to use the mess that I can sometimes be.

My prayer is that this blog will join with all the other voices out there (vocal and written) crying in the wilderness to prepare the way of the Lord, make His paths straight and to speak to His people for encouragement, edification and comfort.

Thanks for reading, and hopefully see you at different stops on this journey.

Shalom fam. 🙂
